St Winfrid's church did not have a website, and as such, they needed an online presence. Whilst St Winfrid's is primarily a church, the facilities that St Winfrid's provides are regularly used by the local community. We needed to design a site that not only catered for church members but also those in the local area looking for specific facilities that the church might be able to provide.
Our first action was to decide who the primary audience was. It's impossible to target all audiences to the same degree, so we instead divide the audience up into primary, secondary and tertiary. By knowing who these audiences are, we can make better decisions regarding layout and content. This leads to a more focused and effective website.
It was decided that the website should primarily advertise to current and potential church members. Those looking for the church's facilities were a secondary consideration. This is reflected in the layout of the home page, where we describe the church first, rather than the facilities it provides. We cater for the secondary audience by using clear call-to-action buttons and headings.
The new website for St Winfrid's has been built from the ground up around our custom Content Management System that allows the church leadership team to update the website themselves. Team members can log in and easily add new upcoming events or blog articles. This is a valuable resource for such a community-led organisation. The new website is also responsive and mobile-friendly.
