Vue.js Development

UK-based Vue.js developers

Modern frontends built into the PHP/Laravel application that you already have.

Vue.js is a JavaScript framework for building interactive user interfaces. For teams running a Laravel or legacy PHP application, Vue is usually the good choice. The best bit is that it can often be introduced one screen at a time, without rebuilding what you already have.

What we build with Vue.js

Vue inside your existing application

We can add Vue to a single part of an older site, leaving everything else untouched and working. When more of the application needs modernising, a full Vue application can be built that communicates with your existing API.

Upgrades for your Laravel site

Inertia.js lets us build whole mult-part interfaces in Vue while Laravel carries on handling your logins, permissions and business rules. Built on top of your existing project, there is no separate system to build and pay for alongside it.

Dashboards, portals and data-heavy screens

Reporting dashboards, customer and staff portals, CRM systems, document libraries, long multi-step forms, and tables holding tens of thousands of rows that still need to respond instantly. These are the screens people use all day, where small frustrations add up.

Replacing ageing jQuery interfaces

A lot of working systems are held together by jQuery written a decade ago that nobody wants to touch. Vue is a natural replacement, and it can be introduced piece by piece rather than all at once. Older plugins can stay in place until there is a reason to replace them.

Taking over an existing Vue project

We pick up Vue projects built by other teams, whether they are out of date, half-finished or simply unsupported. We start by telling you what is worth keeping, which is usually more than you would expect. See our website takeover and legacy application support services.

Why is Vue.js a good fit for Laravel and PHP applications?

Vue and Laravel have been used together long enough that the pairing is well worn. The deeper reason it works is that Vue adds the least to a Laravel application: the code stays close to what is already there, so the system stays straightforward to change later.

Vue templates and Blade

It looks like ordinary Laravel code

Vue templates are close enough to the Blade templates a Laravel developer writes every day that the two are recognisably the same shape.

That similarity is the whole commercial argument. Any competent Laravel developer can pick this work up and change it, which means future work stays quick and affordable, and you are never dependent on the one agency that happened to build it.

Vue performance

It stays fast without extra work

Vue keeps track of what has actually changed on a page and updates only that. Change one row in a table of five thousand and it redraws that row, not the table. Other frameworks can reach the same result, but they need more care and more specialist knowledge to get there, which shows up in your budget and in how easy the system is to look after later.

Vue tooling

Fewer decisions to get wrong

Vue supplies official, supported tools for the things every application needs, so there is one obvious way to do most things. Every decision left open at the start of a project gets made inconsistently later, usually by whoever is busiest at the time. Fewer open decisions means a system that still makes sense in three years.

Vue.js or React: which should you choose?

Both are excellent and both are fully supported by Laravel. The decision rarely comes down to the technology; it comes down to what you are building and who will look after it afterwards.

Consideration Vue.js React
Best suited to Adding interactivity to an existing application, step by step Systems where the interface is the product
Working with Laravel Excellent, via Inertia.js Excellent, via Inertia.js
Ease of picking it up later Easier, and familiar to any Laravel developer More moving parts to learn first
Ready-made components Good, and enough for most projects The widest choice available
Adding to a site you already have Designed for it, with less setup Works well, screen by screen
Sharing code with a mobile app Limited Yes, through React Native
UK hiring pool Good, strongest among Laravel developers Larger

We build both and have no reason to push you either way. See our React development page for the other side of this comparison.

How we introduce Vue into an existing application

There is no big rewrite here, and no evening where everything switches over at once. We modernise the parts that benefit most, prove it works, and expand from there.

1
Review & Audit

How your application is built, where the real friction is, and what your current frontend is costing you in support time and complaints. That review is useful on its own, whatever you decide to do next.

2
Pick The Screens Worth Changing

The honest part. In most established systems only a fraction of screens genuinely need modernising; the rest work perfectly well as they are. We would rather tell you that than sell you a rebuild you do not need.

3
Build The First One

One screen, live and in use. It proves the approach and gives everyone something real to react to before the scope grows. If the approach is wrong, this is where we find out cheaply.

4
Expand At Your Own Pace

Further screens follow as they earn it, and you can stop at any point. Everything is documented as we go, so picking the work back up in six months costs no more than continuing today.

At every stage your application stays working and stays deployable. That is the whole point of doing it this way.

Built so you are not locked in

Most of the systems we build outlive the project that created them, and most of our clients have no reason to employ a frontend developer of their own. You should not need one in order to keep your system working, or to get a quote from someone else. That shapes how we build.

Four things we do differently as a result:

  • Familiar code: written the standard, conventional way, in one consistent style, so it reads like ordinary Laravel work rather than something only its author understands
  • Standard tools only: the official, supported options, not a bespoke stack of libraries that were fashionable the month the project started
  • Your business rules stay in Laravel: Vue handles what people see. Laravel remains the single place your permissions and business rules live, so there is never any doubt which system is in charge
  • Documentation and training: conventions written down properly, so whoever works on it next starts from a known position, and ongoing support from us if you want it rather than because you are stuck with us

When we'd recommend React instead

Vue is our usual recommendation for Laravel and PHP work, but it is not the right answer every time. We would point you towards React if:

  • You already have React expertise available. Whether that is in-house or through another partner, existing skill beats theoretical fit.
  • A mobile app is on the roadmap. React can share code and people between web and mobile. Vue has no real equivalent.
  • You need something only React has. For the most demanding data tables, charts and mapping, the best ready-made components are React-first. If your system depends on one of them, choose the framework it was built for.

We build React to the same standard. Our React development page covers that work.
